Clean install of windows xp
A clean install means you will be installing the operating system on a drive that is formatted and free of previous data. To perform a clean install follow these simple steps:
- Ensure all previous important data is backed up
- Make sure your system meets the requirements
- Connect all the peripherals (mouse, keyboard..)
- Insert Windows XP disk and restart your computer
- If you are given the option "Press any key to boot from CD" do so, then go to step 7.
- If you are not able to boot from the CD you may have to enable this in the BIOS. To enter your computer's BIOS you will have to press a key when the computer first starts, usually it is the Delete, ESC, or F8 key but it will display the correct key on the screen with the message "To enter setup press ...". You may have to restart more than once to press the correct key in time. Once in the BIOS you will have to find the Boot sequence tab and select to Boot from CD. Then select "save and exit."
- When the welcome screen appears press the Enter key to begin the setup.
- Next press F8 to accept the License Agreement.
- Next you will have to Partition the hard drive (Warning after this step all the information on the drive will be erased, make sure you've backed up your important files). To do this press D to delete the old partition and then press L when asked. Press Enter to select "unpartitioned space". Select "Format the partition using the NTFS file system".
- Depending on the size of the hard drive the formatting process could take between 20 min and 2 hours. After the formatting completes the setup files will begin copying automatically and the rest of the process is filing in your personal settings.
- Even before connecting to the internet install an antivirus
program and make sure Windows firewall is turned on.
