Installing windows xp
Whether your finally coming out of the Windows 98 dark ages, or doing a clean install of the operating system on you new PC, you can find a step by step guide here.
Before you begin, make sure all your devices are properly connected and you have a valid Microsoft product key. The minimum requirements are:
- 300Mhz processor
- 128 Mb ram
- 1.5 GB of hard disk space available
- A video Card capable of at least Super VGA 800x600 or higher resolution
- CD/DVD drive
- Keyboard and mouse
Choosing the install type that's right for you
Generally a clean install of an operating system is preferred, which means completely erasing the hard drive with the format utility included on the install disk.
An upgrade install means that Windows will attempt to keep your files and settings intact while the operating system is overhauled. This method is not ideal because of compatibility issues with older software and you may experience problems with stability. The upgrade version of the software however may be used to perform a clean install provided that you still have a older version disk (ex: Windows 98 or ME) to prove that it is in fact an upgrade.
Maybe your previous installation is corrupted somehow, and using the "Repair" option in the setup will return you OS to working condition.
Want to have more than one operating system available to boot. No problem just follow these simple steps.
