How to install windows 2000
If your upgrading from another OS, make sure to back up all your
important files prior to proceeding.
- To begin the installation you will have to start your PC by one of the
following methods.
- Booting from the CD. To enable booting from the CD drive, configure
your BIOS according to your motherboard manual.
- Use boot disks. To create boot disks for Win2k start your current OS
and insert the Windows 2000 CD. Click START, then RUN and type in :
your
CD drive letter:\bootdisk\makeboot a:
Press ENTER
- From within your current operating system, insert the win2k CD and
at the command prompt type:
Your CD drive letter:\i386\winnt32.exe
Or if the OS is not Windows, type:
Your CD drive letter:\i386\winnt.exe
Press ENTER
- After the setup inspects your hardware, the Windows 2000 screen
appears, press ENTER to begin the installation.
- Accept the license agreement by pressing F8.
- Next you will have to select a partition and file system on which to install
windows 2000. NTFS is the best choice unless you are using a
Multiboot setup with another operating
system using the FAT file system and need to access files on the other
partition.
- Once you select the partition to install Win2k on, press ENTER to
begin copying the setup files and your PC will restart when completed.
- Don't press any key when the computer starts up to "boot from
the CD".
- Click Next on the setup Windows GUI page. This will detect
specialized hardware.
- The rest of the setup will require you to input specific information
regarding your region and intended use.
